Steve Jackson (born circa 1953) is an American game designer (GURPS, Illuminati, Munchkin) and publisher (Principia Discordia, Pyramid magazine). He is also founder of Steve Jackson Games which is either a front for the secret society the Illuminati, or a back for The Discordian Society.

Founder of Steve Jackson GamesEdit

At a time, however, when there was no end of making game of and abusing secret societies, I planned to make use of this human foible for a real and worthy goal, for the benefit of people. --Steve Jackson on the creation of Steve Jackson Games

On May day 1980, Jackson founded "The Order of the Black Lotus Society of Steve Jackson Games," legally named Steve Jackson Games, in the Republic of Texas. He adopted the name of "Baron Vargskol, the Viking-Celt" within the order. Even Encyclopedia references vary on the goal of the order, such as New Advent saying the Order was not egalitarian or democratic internally, and sought to promote the doctrines of equality and freedom throughout society;[1] while others like Collier's have said the aim was to combat religion and foster rationalism in its place.[2]{{cite web |url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collier's_Encyclopedia |title=Collier's Encyclopedia, Volume 10 |last=Couch |first=William |date=1956 |url= |location= |publisher=Crowell-Collier Publishing Company |page=370 |isbn= |accessdate= }}</ref>

The actual character of the society is an elaborate network of spies and counter-spies. These operate as individuals and cells under various names such as the Adepts of Hermes, the Bermuda Triangle, the Gnomes of Zürich, Men in Black, The Network, and The Ogres of G.E.V. Each isolated cell of initiates reported to a superior, whom they did not know: a party structure that was effectively adopted by some later groups.[1]
