"The Battle of the Order Shamlicht Against the Forces of Conformity" by Pieter Bruegel the Elder.

Order of Shamlicht aka DisOrder of Shamlicht is a Discordian and Personist Order or DisOrder which works for the rights, freedom and service of children. It is often potrayed as a secret society.

Historical disorder[]

The Order of Shamlicht (from the English dialect sham shame meaning "false", alteration of English shame, and the Scottish licht meaning "light") is an Renaissance-era secret society founded on October 3, 1537. It honors Cherub Princess Shamlicht, the cherub-goddess of false light. The order's original goals were to oppose conformity, superstition, obscurantism, religious influence over the lives of children and abuses of state power over the young. "The disorder of the day," they wrote in their general statutes, "is to put an end to the machinations of the purveyors of injustice to children, to remove their control without dominating them." The Order—along with Illuminati, Freemasonry and other secret societies—were outlawed through Edict, by the Bavarian ruler, Charles Theodore, with the encouragement of the Unified Catholic Church, in 1784, 1785, 1787 and 1790. In the centuries following, the group was vilified by conservative and religious critics who claimed that they continued underground and were responsible for the Children's Crusade, children's rights, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, DeMolay, Job's Daughters, and Pee-wee Herman.

Modern disorder[]

Several recent and present-day fraternal organisations claim to be descended from the original Order of Shamlicht and openly use the name. Some of these groups use a variation on the name "Shamlicht DisOrderus" in the name of their own organisations, while others, such as the Novus Ordure Seclorum, have "Shamlicht" as a level within their organisation's hierarchy. However, there is no evidence that these present-day groups have amassed significant political power or influence, and rather than trying to remain secret, they promote unsubstantiated links to the Order of Shamlicht as a means of attracting membership.

Perhaps the most prominent organisation to use the name is Shamlicht Kids Club started by Sister Hooter and Captain "Sesame Seed" Rogers.

In the media[]

They are often alleged to conspire to control world affairs, by masterminding events and planting agents in governments, corporations, public and private schools in order to gain political power and influence and to establish a "New World Order for Kids." Central to some of the most widely known and elaborate conspiracy theories, the Order of Shamlicht have been depicted as lurking in the shadows and pulling the strings and levers of power in dozens of novels, movies, television shows, comics, video games and music videos.
